Temple Structure
The current Tow Boo Kong Temple which occupies 80,000 square feet of land has a majestic arch sitting at the main entrance.
On top of the middle arch, there are four Chinese characters inscribed on a tablet. These four characters ‘积德存仁’, signifies virtues and benevolence.
The main temple building was constructed using high quality timber imported from China. The intricate carvings in the various halls were done by artisans from China, too.
As the colour Gold represents heaven and royalty, the temple uses this special tone as the main colour theme for the halls which gives it a grand feeling. The roof awnings are layered and dragon motifs made from porcelain bowls sit on the roof which gives the temple much characteristic. Two stone lions, at each side of the temple, are positioned facing the entrance arch.
At both sides of the temple's front building, stands four idols enshrined beside the doors. They are the Four Heavenly King deities. These gods are a standard component in Chinese temples and can be seen "guarding" the doors in most temples.
In the interior of the temple, there are 3 sanctums and an inner courtyard which are connected to one another. This structure is built based on the Chinese traditional building concept and they are, namely - the Front Prayer Hall, the Sacred Prayer Hall and the Dou Mu Prayer Hall.
There are two towers situated in the inner courtyard before the Dou Mu Hall. They are the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower. A huge stone carving depicting nine magnificent dragons spouting crystal clear water into the fountain, sits in this courtyard too. An intricately clay mural of a hundred children, each exulting youthful character, is sculpted on the wall. It is believed that this mural signifies fertility.
